The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) Media Board Chief stated that the Kurds and other communities in the disputed regions have been neglected and faced opposition and that the PUK sees the provincial council elections as an opportunity to correct previous poor administrative practices.
Latif Nerwayi, head of the PUK's Media Board, said in a special program on GK TV Channel: "The PUK rejects the administration's performance in the disputed provinces in terms of nationality and services. The inhabitants of the disputed areas deserve better treatment. There is a distinct disparity in the quality of services provided between Kurdish and Arab neighborhoods."
"In the provinces of Mosul and Kirkuk, a small number of parties have taken control of governance, even though these provinces have the highest number of communities in Iraq," Nerwayi added. Their rights must be protected. The PUK is working hard to reclaim their rights in this matter."
"The process of Arabization in Sinjar poses a multifaceted challenge to the Yazidi faith, community, location, and ability to cohabit," he added. As a result, the PUK is attempting to implement administrative reforms in the province of Mosul to stimulate economic growth in Sinjar and resolve the existing negative border conditions."
The Iraqi provincial council elections commenced on Saturday morning in various provinces, including Kirkuk. Notably, Kirkuk has been absent from provincial council elections for 18 years. The PUK views these elections as a chance to rectify the previous governor's poor administrative practices.
