Campaigning Ends; Voting Begins

Voting.
As of 6:00 a.m. (local time) on Friday, December 15, 2023, all campaigns have ended so that voting can proceed. If a candidate goes on to campaign, they will be subject to legal consequences.
The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) permitted all nine lists and coalitions that have nominated themselves for the provincial council elections that are scheduled to take place in 15 Iraqi provinces to campaign for the last 40 days.
Special voting begins
On Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 7:00 a.m., special voting—the voting of the security forces and IDPs—is set to start and go until 6:00 p.m.
48,260 IDPs and 1,002,393 members of the security forces are expected to cast ballots in the provincial council elections, according to the IHEC.
General voting begins
In the meantime, general voting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, and run through 6:00 p.m. in fifteen Iraqi provinces.
15,108,135 general voters are expected to cast ballots in the provincial council elections, according to the IHEC.
In total, 16,158,788 voters will vote in the provincial council elections at 7,766 polling centers and 38,040 polling stations.
