President Bafel: Martyr Akam Fought for Kurdistan

Commander Akam's martyrdom commemoration

The commemoration of Commander Akam's martyrdom took place in Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday, with the participation of Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).  ‍

Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, the Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, Mohammed Haji Mahmoud, the Leader of the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party, Sheikh Adham Osman Sheikh Ahmad Barzani, Peshmerga Minister Shorsh Ismail, Director of Zanyari Agency Jalal Sheikh Naji, and many other family members and friends of martyr Akam attended the ceremony.

The ceremony began with a few verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a moment of silence to honour the martyrs' souls. Subsequently, a video biography of the martyr Akam was presented.  ‍

In his speech, President Bafel said: "Martyr Akam played a significant role in defending the Kurds, reorganising the PUK, and combating ISIS. Commander Akam fought tirelessly for the land and the nation, ultimately sacrificing his life in the pursuit of these causes. But his presence remains with us, and we remember him daily."

"I myself look at his letters and photos daily, and he has left us a religious, brave, and proud force that I hereby say to all of you: each of you is a result, and I will support you until the last hour," he added.
