President Bafel's meeting with Consul General of Netherlands
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Jaco Beerends, Consul General of the Netherlands, to the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting was attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, the head of the Relations Bureau, and Dara Khaylani, a member of the Leadership Council. There was discussion about the elections and the general state of affairs in the Kurdistan Region, with an emphasis on the importance of continuing the negotiations in order to resolve the problems.
President Bafel stated about the elections and the relationship between political parties and forces in the Kurdistan Region, "We can only protect the Kurdish home by uniting and working together; the PUK supports any initiative that aims to strengthen the regional framework and wants national problems to be solved through consensus."
"The accomplishment of these ambitious objectives will be guaranteed by holding fair elections that take into account the wishes of all parties," he added.
The restructuring of the Peshmerga forces was also a topic of discussion during the meeting. President Bafel stated: "The problem has unique characteristics, and we are working hard to get beyond the challenges. Our goal is to establish a powerful national force that upholds the highest interests, but it must be impartial and devoid of special interests."
In terms of the lives of citizens and the poor living conditions of salaried workers, President Bafel made it clear that all efforts must be coordinated to end this bad situation and stop letting political disputes take the lives of people. We are committed to seeing that our people lead decent lives, and we will keep working toward this goal.
