The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)'s president, Bafel Jalal Talabani, welcomed a delegation from the US State Department led by Victoria Taylor, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, at the PUK's Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil.
Recent political, economic, and security developments in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and neighboring regions were discussed. They emphasized the significance of laying the groundwork for Constitution-based relations and dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad in order to remove obstacles from the political process.
President Bafel also addressed the ongoing, lawful efforts between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to resolve their differences. "To resolve this issue from the ground up and protect the rights and lives of the people, we have urged that all issues concerning people's lives and salaries be kept out of political disputes," he said. To accomplish this, several mandatory procedures have been proposed. "
President Bafel outlined to the delegation the obstacles that must be overcome in order to achieve the national goal of reforming the Peshmerga forces. He emphasized that there is a strong desire to overcome this obstacle in order to build a strong national force with the help of allies and that the PUK fully supports achieving this national goal in a way that upholds equality and justice.
