PUK President: We Pledge Our Commitment to Uphold Mam's Policy

Commemorating the late President Mam Jalal, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), published a message on Monday, saying: "We sadly observe the commemoration of the pride of the nation and the country, a president who valiantly gave his life in service to the nation."

President Bafel's message read:

It is with great sadness that we honour the memory of a president who gave his life in service to his country. His entire life was devoted to advancing and protecting human rights, democracy, and peace.

We are saddened by the passing of a compassionate, protective, devoted, and steadfast Kurdish leader, as well as a founding figure and unifying force in Iraq. We take great pride in the fact that he left us with a roadmap that will forever serve as a guide for securing the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people and establishing a nation where people can live lives marked by dignity and freedom.

We honor the memory of President Mam Jalal, who took on the duty of advocating for Kurdistan's interests and devoted himself unwaveringly to the pursuit of liberty and prosperity for a marginalized nation. His devotion to this cause endured until his passing. We honor a president who served as the architect of the modern Iraqi state by fostering a unifying environment that facilitated the convergence of previously disparate perspectives and identities, which only found unity under his leadership.

Today, we reaffirm our enduring commitment to President Mam Jalal and pledge to continue on the path he has established. To advance the prosperity of the Kurdish people, we will imitate his actions and adopt his astute policies moving forward. We should continue to work to broaden the scope of liberty and democracy, fostering inclusiveness and consolidating our collective efforts to document a narrative that would satisfy President Mam Jalal's spirit and validate our sense of accomplishment in pursuing this prudent and constructive strategy.

Thus, on behalf of the new members of the Leadership Council and the members of the PUK, we pledge to uphold and continue Mam's policy. In addition, we express our desire to foster an atmosphere of reconciliation and unity by extending a peace and unity gesture to every individual. With a commitment to impartiality and a lack of personal agendas, our efforts will be focused on fostering a peaceful and secure future, with a primary emphasis on fostering the cohesion and solidarity of the Kurdish community. Our collective efforts will be focused on achieving prosperity while demonstrating a willingness to make sacrifices to protect Kurdistan's interests.
