U.S. Embassy's Deputy Chief of Mission Congratulates PUK President

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received David Burger, Deputy Chief of Mission, at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq.

During the meeting, Mark Stroh, the U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, was in attendance. David Burger congratulated Bafel Jalal Talabani on his re-election as the President of the PUK, choosing a new leadership, and the success of the party's 5th Congress. The discussion primarily focused on the overall state of affairs within the country as well as the dynamics between Erbil and Baghdad. It was underscored that a resolution to the existing difficulties should be pursued in a manner that safeguards the rights of people and ensures stability in the region.

President Bafel commended the U.S. for its constructive endeavors in addressing the challenges at hand. He emphasized that adhering to the constitution and previously established agreements is the most effective approach for surmounting obstacles and ensuring regional stability, and that any deviation from this course of action would be detrimental to the rights of the people and the public interest. 

He stated: "Our primary focus is on ensuring the timely delivery of the financial entitlements to the Kurdistan Region. It is important to separate this matter from any political challenges that may arise."
