Concerning the unrest in Kirkuk, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) released a statement.
In a statement, the PUK Political Bureau stated:
Unfortunately, the conflict between political forces and fighting over the party headquarters in Kirkuk has escalated to the point of clashes, resulting in deaths and injuries, all resulting from political and national irresponsibility.
The PUK has been in contact with the Iraqi government for three days to fulfill its national and governmental responsibilities to prevent clashes and violence between Kurdish nationals and other communities. If, on the other hand, an agreement had been reached between the parties in Kirkuk, the headquarters issue would not have become a significant issue in the city. Now is the time for the prime minister, who is also the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, to intervene personally and work with the city government, the army, and PMF troops to resolve the situation. We, the PUK, believe that the Kirkuki people are committed to restraint in the public interest and for the sake of peace, and we expect the Kirkuk government and other city parties to carry out their duties.
