President Bafel: A Fair Election is Our Top Priority

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Mark Stroh, the new US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The continued strategic relationship between the United States and the Kurdistan Region was a major topic of discussion, as were issues of stability in the Kurdistan Region, elections, and the presence of US troops in Iraq. President Bafel extended his best wishes to the newly appointed US Consul. He also reaffirmed the PUK's backing for closer U.S. ties with the Kurdistan Region to increase cooperation and advance shared goals.
"The PUK's objective is to achieve consensus among Kurdish forces and national interests. We have made significant efforts in this regard, and we believe that a stronger Kurdistan depends on our unity," he stated.
President Bafel explained the position of the PUK regarding elections, stating, "Our efforts are to hold fair and genuine elections on time, elections that will be successful for the people of Kurdistan."
