Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister, met with Mark Stroh, the new U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, and they spoke about several topics of significance to both parties.
Daban Shadala, the Kurdistan Regional Government's Deputy Head of the Foreign Relations Department, was present at the meeting on Wednesday in Erbil. The issue of press freedom and journalism in Iraq and the region was discussed at the meeting. Both parties agreed that the Region should not compromise on these issues, but rather establish a healthier and more professional relationship between political authorities and the media.
The meeting also discussed the current state of activists and civil society organizations, with a focus on the critical need to provide more support to these organizations in all of the Region's cities and towns.
