Deputy Prime Minister received British State Minister for Security
Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Tom Tugendhat, the British State Minister for Security, and they engaged in several discussions on their mutual interests.
The British Consul General Rosy Cave and Daban Shadala, the Deputy Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), were present at the meeting on Wednesday in Erbil, which focused on the importance of preserving internal Kurdish unity.
Terrorism and terrorist organizations continue to pose a threat to the security and political stability of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and even the surrounding region. Both parties agreed that maintaining internal Kurdish unity has implications for these issues. It also has an impact on relations between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region. By preserving internal Kurdish unity, the Kurdish position in Baghdad will be strengthened, and it will also be easier to resolve issues between the Region and Baghdad.
Another part of the meeting focused on the issues and reformation of the Peshmerga Ministry. Mr. Tugendhat highlighted the importance of resolving the ministry's problems in this regard, as failure to do so will have consequences for the stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Also discussed at the meeting were strategies to combat organized crime, including drug trafficking and illegal immigration. The British delegation requested increased assistance from the Kurdistan Regional Government to combat drug gangs, prevent illegal immigration, and eradicate organized crime.
Concerning illegal immigration, the Deputy Prime Minister stated, "This issue requires more coordination and cooperation," adding, "One way to stop illegal immigration is for the UK and other Western nations to encourage their businesses and investors to settle in the Kurdistan Region and contribute to its economic growth."
