President Bafel: PUK Strives for Fair Elections

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Alina Romanowski, US Ambassador to Iraq, at Mam Jalal's house in Baghdad.

The overall state of the country and future plans for negotiations to resolve outstanding issues were discussed.

President Bafel addressed the elections, tensions between Erbil and Baghdad, and the payment of Kurdistan Region entitlements, saying, "The PUK's efforts are aimed at holding fair elections on time. We want the elections to be a reason for reconciliation and the development of democracy, not division."

"Our citizens should not be the victims of political conflicts, and the Constitution must be the basis for resolving issues. He added, "Our efforts will continue until we find a conclusive and positive solution so that citizens are no longer anxious about receiving their paychecks."
