Washington Praises PUK-KDP Agreement

The United
States welcomed the agreement between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)
and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the U.S. Consulate General tweeted on
Monday.
The consulate wrote:
"The U.S. Consulate General in Erbil welcomes the PUK and KDP agreement on
holding IKP elections and support for Peshmerga unification and reform."
"We look forward to
seeing progress as the two sides come together and negotiate the remaining
issues to benefit the people of Iraqi Kurdistan," the consulate added.
On July 30, 2023, in Dabashan,
Sulaymaniyah, the Political Bureaus of the PUK and KDP met in the presence of
PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani. They issued a joint statement outlining the
areas where they had come to an agreement, such as the importance of holding
Kurdistan Parliamentary elections on schedule and keeping the Peshmerga
reorganization process moving forward.
