The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President, Bafel Jalal Talabani, held 14 political and diplomatic meetings in Baghdad over three days.
Political disputes should not impact the Kurdistan Region's budget
President Bafel concentrated on the execution of political agreements and respect for Iraq's rights and Constitution during his trip and discussions, some of which took place at the house of late President Mam Jalal in Baghdad.
To ensure a decent standard of living for the Iraqi people as a whole, he reaffirmed the PUK's position that "the life, strength, and budget of the region should be kept out of political conflicts" and that every effort must be made to support the Iraqi government's agenda.
The situation with the elections and the execution of Article 140 are two of the most important issues that President Bafel is working very hard to resolve.
The PUK views itself as a source of responsibility for its citizens
President Bafel met with the four Iraqi presidents (the President of the Republic, the PUK Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament, and the Speaker of the Judicial Council). The meeting covered issues such as adherence to political agreements and protection of all parties' rights within the parameters of the law and the Constitution, as well as the PUK's efforts to reach a consensus and step up to resolve problems and achieve a favorable outcome.
President Bafel highlighted that political issues should no longer stand in the way of the government's program being carried out and should instead benefit all of the country's nationalities and communities.
In this regard, President Bafel emphasized the necessity to send the financial entitlements of the Region and resolve the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad, saying: "Since the PUK is a responsible force for people's welfare and lives, the rights of the Kurdish people are unrelated to any political party, thus we will keep working to protect our legal and constitutional rights."
The PUK disapproves of both majority and minority politics
In addition, the President of the PUK delivered a speech to the political parties in which he outlined the national program and strategy of the PUK. He stated, "We reject majority and minority policies and favor the protection of everyone's rights under the protection of the Constitution." We also believe in getting along with one another and working together."
"The PUK will continue to pursue its unwavering strategy and policy to settle the disputes and establish a conclusive agreement that protects the rights of the Kurdish people," said the President of the PUK. "Protecting the constitutional rights of the surrounding area and meeting the requirements of our community members are our highest priorities."
During a series of meetings with various political parties, President Bafel made the following statement: "We are eager to move toward coordination and collaboration because we think that through mutual understanding and effort, we can overcome the obstacles and steer the condition of the nation in the direction of prosperity."
The PUK supports Fair Elections
Additionally, the PUK President stated during a diplomatic meeting with the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq: "The PUK has always supported having free elections that reflect the desires of all parties and contribute to regional stability."
He continued by saying, "We are opposed to any attempt to depart from the principles of equality and balance, but the PUK is dedicated to upholding every understanding and agreement reached in the past on the unification of the Peshmerga forces."
