The official website of the Iraqi Presidency published a statement condemning the burning of the holy Quran and the Iraqi flag in Sweden.
The full statement is as follows:
The President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid strongly condemns the irresponsible act of granting permission for extremists to burn copies of the Holy Quran and the Iraqi flag once again.
In addition, he is amazed at how the Swedish government, despite respecting people's faiths and religions, does not act as it should.
As a result, the problem is further complicated, and popular anger is exacerbated when violations occur that must be prevented and brought to an end.
Both directly and through diplomatic channels, the President expressed his concern and warned the Swedish authorities to respect Muslim sensibilities and refrain from such deviant behavior.
Furthermore, he reiterated that the Kingdom of Sweden should consider and act responsibly on this matter, taking into account that Muslim sensibilities throughout the world should be respected, as well as Islamic sanctities that should not be insulted. Insofar as they respect the sensibilities and sanctities of every human on this planet, as well as their right to believe and practice their faith.
Amidst these circumstances, President Rashid reaffirmed that the government's responsibility is to protect human rights and guarantee the freedom of expression in a peaceful manner to protest peacefully against what is going on.
A consideration of the country's responsibilities in maintaining diplomatic traditions and adhering to international norms and laws must be taken into account, he added.
