The Iraqi Ministry of Planning has officially approved the geographical boundaries of Halabja province, and a member of the PUK faction in the Iraqi parliament said: "The third reading of the bill that recognizes Halabja as a province will be held in the Iraqi parliament soon, and Halabja will be officially recognized as a province."
Chro Hama Sharif, a member of the PUK faction in the Iraqi parliament, shared the following statement with PUKMEDIA: "As a legal measure today, Sunday, July 9, 2023, the Iraqi Ministry of Planning determined the geographical boundaries of Halabja province, and the third reading of the bill that recognizes Halabja as a province is expected to be done with the resumption of parliamentary sessions. The Iraqi Ministry of Planning determined the geographical boundaries of Halabja province.
The parliament will then officially recognize Halabja as the nineteenth province of Iraq, she continued.
MP Sharif noted that, despite the absence of a budget allocation for Halabja in the budget law, Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi has pledged to allocate a budget for the province so that Halabja can be better served.
Previously, during the formation of the new Iraqi government, PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani demanded that Al-Sudani's cabinet recognize Halabja as the country's nineteenth province. In this context, members of the PUK faction intensified their efforts to make Halabja a province, and now the process has reached its final stage as the third reading of the bill to officially recognize Halabja as a province is expected to occur during the next sessions of the Iraqi Parliament.
