Sozan Mansour, the spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction in the Iraqi parliament, released a statement regarding the Kurdistan Region's share of the Iraqi budget and multiple allegations published here and there.
It said:
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) faction in the Iraqi parliament has been issuing remarks in unsuitable language incompatible with the standing of lawmakers for several days.
Given the sensitivity of the issue and our focus on integrating the people's legitimate requests into the budget, we did not want to respond and yield to their demeaning and unsuitable speech for the benefit of the Kurdish people.
In terms of defending the rights of Kurdish citizens in Baghdad, safeguarding the Kurdistan Region, and national and patriotic matters, we will simply state that no one or party can outbid us.
We have been more concerned with maintaining the unity of Kurdistan in Baghdad than any other Kurdish force. It was not we who shattered unity for the sake of positions and party goals.
The claims that Mr. Qubad Talabani has spoken to a few Iraqi MPs are unfounded and untrue. Mr. Qubad simply contacted the PUK delegate on the Finance Committee and instructed him to attempt to solidify the Kurdistan Region's economic rights. "You made fun of agreeing with Baghdad when the Kurdish people went without paychecks and the Kurdistan Region was threatened by an economic crisis." To obtain the 200 billion dinars, Mr. Qubad led the Kurdistan Regional Government's negotiation team 11 times, met with Iraqi parties for 256 hours, and stayed in Baghdad for 50 days.
We conclude by stating that the best way to overcome problems is through harmony and genuine Kurdish unity and that the real threat to the region is dispersion, political chaos, and low-level political speeches.
