Saadi Pire to UNAMI: PUK supports addressing the minorities' seats

During a conversation between a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) political bureau member and a UNAMA delegation about elections and minorities' seats in the Kurdistan Parliament, it was made clear that the PUK supports timely, fair elections as well as a suitable solution for the minorities' seats. 

On May 22, 2023, Saadi Pire, a member of the PUK Political Bureau, hosted a UNAMI delegation that included Head of UNAMI Office in the Kurdistan Region, Advisor on Electoral Affairs and Advisor on Political Affairs.

The meeting covered recent political developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly the discussions between the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) regarding the election process and how to address their unresolved differences.

The PUK wants to organize free and fair elections on schedule, Pire emphasized, adding that "an appropriate solution for the minorities' seats should be found without reducing the number of their seats."
