The Joint meeting of the PUK and KDP Political Bureaus
The Political Bureaus of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) issued a joint statement on Tuesday.
Both parties concurred that the Kurdistan Region's constitutional framework should be strengthened, and that legal and political processes should be sped up to guarantee the timely staging of the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections.
The PUK and KDP's joint statement said:
Following Mr. Masoud Barzani's initiative on May 11, 2023, during the opening ceremony of the Barzani National Memorial, the Political Bureaus of the PUK and KDP convened in Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
At the start of the meeting, both sides praised President Barzani's initiative, which came just in time. They agreed to take practical steps with other parties to follow this initiative and reorganize Kurdistan's internal affairs, thus opening a new chapter in all relations.
The KDP and the PUK Political Bureaus thank the Council of Ministers for approving the Bill on Public Financial Reorganization, a collaboration of all the political parties in the ninth cabinet.
During the meeting, the significance of enhancing Kurdistan's constitutional framework and implementing crucial measures to ensure that parliamentary elections are held on schedule this year was also deliberated.
Each party desires cooperation from all parties to maintain the spirit of brotherhood and fill in the gaps created by the past.
The two parties agreed to collaborate and conduct further meetings to create a favorable legal and political framework for holding elections and addressing the region's problems.
