The Meeting.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with a delegation from the Iraqi Parliament, which included members of the Committee of Endowment and Religious Affairs, led by Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, to discuss the most recent developments in Iraq as well as ways to improve ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani recalled President Mam Jalal's role in achieving harmony, unity, and solidarity among Iraqi parties and communities at the meeting held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in Dabashan. He stated that during the challenging and delicate time following the fall of the Ba'ath regime, President Mam Jalal emerged as a figurehead in Iraqi politics who brought together all different voices and colors without discrimination.
All political groups must increase their commitment to tolerance and peaceful coexistence, Qubad Talabani highlighted, adding that "we should all work in the same way as President Mam Jalal to resolve issues for the sake of reconciliation and national unity."
The Deputy Prime Minister spoke on the ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, saying: "We have consistently highlighted that Baghdad is the strategic depth of the Kurdistan Region. Even if things are going well now, we must work together to achieve more harmony and unity in order to address the problems between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region in a fundamental and long-term manner."
