The transfer of Kurdish education staff files to personnel of the Iraqi government's Ministry of Education was one of many demands President Bafel made to the new Iraqi cabinet during the establishment of the new government to serve the people of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

In a previous meeting, Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), pledged to keep Kurdish teachers' salaries out of political controversies and to shift payment of their salaries to the Iraqi federal government's lists.

We applaud the work of the PUK President
Parwin Fatih Hamid, director of the Kurdish Education Supervision Unit in Kirkuk, told PUKMEDIA: “The Kurdish educators’ files in Kirkuk and the disputed areas have been transferred as the two Iraqi ministries of Finance and Education have agreed to it. Only a few legal procedures remain to accomplish this demand with the assistance of the PUK."

"We thank Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the PUK, for keeping his word to the Kurdish teachers," said Hamid
In Kirkuk: a specific budget will be set aside for Kurdish education
President Bafel's request to put aside a specific budget for Kurdish education in Kirkuk and the disputed areas has been followed up by the PUK faction.

Sabah Habib, a member of the Iraqi parliament from the PUK faction on the Kirkuk share, told PUKMEDIA: "After President Bafel discussed the issue with the Iraqi Minister of Education, who promised to implement the demand of the PUK, our faction met with the Minister of Education and the Council of Ministers to follow up the request of President Bafel and they, in turn, promised to allocate a special budget for Kurdish education in Kirkuk and the disputed areas."
The PUK prevents teachers’ salaries from being mixed with political conflict
The PUK President and the PUK faction insisted on the rights of Kurdish teachers in Kirkuk and the disputed areas, preventing the politicization of teacher salaries.

"The PUK faction met with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani about this matter, and he assured us that it would be fulfilled," Habib stated.

He added: "The PUK had previously attempted to grant this right to Kurdish teachers in Kirkuk on a number of occasions with no luck. However, owing to President Bafel's efforts,  there was a transfer of  Kurdish teachers’ files which prevented the salary issue from being tied up with political issues in Kirkuk and the disputed areas."
