The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)'s Asayish forces in Duhok abducted journalist Omed Baroshki and arrested him again, the Metro Center for Journalists' Rights & Advocacy (MJR) said on Monday, April 17, 2023.

Baroshki was among dozens of journalists and activists arrested in Duhok during anti-government protests over unpaid wages in the summer of 2020. He was released after serving his sentence.

In a statement, the Metro Center stated:

Around 2 p.m. today, Duhok Asaysh forces conducted a raid on the home of journalist Omed Baroshki on the K.R.O. road in the heart of Duhok and seized all of his belongings, including his books.

Omed Baroshki was arrested and kidnapped without the court's or the Journalists Syndicate's knowledge, which is against Kurdistan Journalism Law No. 35.

The arrest and kidnapping of Omed Baroshki, the filing of two new lawsuits against Sherwan Sherwani, and the retaking of the Badinan detainees to the prisons of the security agencies and the courts tell us there is another attempt and conspiracy against journalists and activists in Duhok province. Reports from representatives of countries and international organizations in the Kurdistan Region emphasize the weakness of freedom of expression and journalism.
