Some Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) officials obstruct and sabotage all efforts and progress made to mend ties between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the KDP.
Whenever this minority within the KDP believed that the relationship between the PUK and the KDP was positive and progressing, they attempted to destroy it by erecting impediments, thereby precipitating fresh political, security, and economic crisis. However, the PUK has always prioritized the desire for unity over other interests and has given great weight to national issues, the interests of the people, and the defense of the Kurdistan Region as an independent entity.
PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani has stated on multiple occasions regarding the relationship between the PUK and the KDP: "Whenever the PUK's relations with the KDP have moved in a positive direction, the movement has been halted; it is clear that there is a hand working to ensure that the relationship between the PUK and the KDP remains negative."
The PUK and the KDP were about to meet, but it was haltedThe KDP team within the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has always been the source of friction between the PUK and the KDP and has become a source of contention between the two parties.
Samir Hawrami, the spokesperson for Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, stated on television: "Whenever there has been a rapprochement between the PUK and the KDP, the KDP team in the government has issued a statement that has disrupted relations between the two parties... The intention was to hold a serious meeting before Newroz, but Jutyar Adel, the KDP team's spokesperson, thwarted the effort."
"Some desire that the PUK and the KDP never come to an agreement, but they do not wish to inform the Kurdish people of their desire... However the PUK has no specific demands, it is interested in achieving a deal for the benefit of the populace," Hawrami continued.
A group within the KDP take a different stanceThe KRG's new cabinet's terrible policy was on the agenda of the enemies of the Kurds, who wanted to see the Kurdistan Region become more indebted to the point of giving Iraq its oil.
Political analyst Zardasht Jalal told PUKMEDIA: "Some inside the KDP are carrying out other nations' agenda in the Kurdistan Region, and this has led them to seek personal and party goals in the Kurdistan Region and overlook the higher interests of the nation."
"The disastrous policy adopted in this government is part of the strategy of the Kurdish enemies and has placed every person in the Kurdistan Region in debt; this mentality does not want two Kurds to discuss together," he stated.
"This attitude of one group of the KDP is hostile to the other group and its allies. As a result, the Kurdistan Region has suffered, and other nations have been given the chance to succeed in their plots against our state... It reached a point where they were utilizing the Kurdistan Region's territory and sky, which represented this state's greatest degree of sovereignty and for which much blood had been shed, to further their nefarious objectives," he added.
The KDP was expected to begin a new chapter of reconciliation with the KRG parties after its 14th congress, but instead, as the KDP holds the premiership, the gap between the parties and individuality in decision-making inside the government have grown.
