Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Rewaz Fayaq
Dr. Rewaz Fayaq, Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, warmly welcomes the agreement between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), adding, "We hope this agreement will be a good and mutual start on the pending issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government."
The following is the Speaker's complete statement:
After the resolution of the oil and gas issue between the federal government and the KRG, the Kurdistan Parliament welcomes the agreement, warmly congratulates the Kurdish and Iraqi people, and hopes that it will be the start of a good and mutual understanding on all other outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.
The dispute over the oil problem has caused years of hardship for the Kurdish citizens. As a result, our nation expects that we will all work to bring about a new era of security, peace, and justice for all societal groups, including all cities and towns.
After securing the region's revenue sources, we must insist that the Kurdistan Regional Government send the budget bill to parliament now and in the future. We must all uphold our legal obligations in this regard, just as we do when we demand that the Iraqi state include the entitlements of our region in its budget and rely on its law as a constitutional and legal document to do so.
