Following the first reading of the bill recognizing Halabja as a province, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) released a statement.
On Sunday, April 2, 2023, in the presence of 170 members, the Iraqi parliament opened its session to examine the measure to recognize Halabja as the nineteenth province of Iraq.
PUK MP Dr. Bryar Rashid told PUKMEDIA that "the bill's first reading was done and the PUK side fully backed the items that are in Halabja's interest."
The PUK Political Bureau Said In a message:
The Iraqi Parliament and all MPs from all coalitions, political parties, and independent MPs have been working tirelessly to recognize Halabja as the nineteenth province of Federal Iraq, and the PUK Political Bureau greatly values their assistance in this endeavor.
The PUK sees these sacred efforts as a responsible national stance that will further strengthen the unity of the country and brotherhood between the communities of the Iraqi people, which had suffered as a result of the poor policies of the previous regime. In addition, we view this democratic decision as the consolidation of the rights of the people of Halabja and the families of the martyrs that will serve as the cornerstone for enhancing a true national spirit.
