The Kurdistan Region has begun preparations for the Kurdish New Year and Newroz, and many tourists are expected to visit the region throughout the Newroz festivities.
The activities of inSlemani are unaffected by the rainThe inSlemani Platform has officially started its Newroz activities in Sulaymaniyah city and has made a specific plan to celebrate this year's Newroz differently than previous years.
The activities began on Friday, March 17, 2023, and even though a wave of rain has hit the Kurdistan Region, the platform's spokesperson has stated that the activities will continue even if it rains.
According to Hazhan Hersh, the inSlemani Platform's spokesperson, their activities began on March 17 and will last through March 20.
Furthermore, the inSlemani market, Kurdish film screenings, and cultural games are still taking place in Azadi Park from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. (local time).
On March 18, inSlemani Children's Day was held in Sarchinar Park, with special and entertaining activities for children as well as gifts from inSlemani.
The Newroz Concert, scheduled to take place at the Romanian Theatre, was moved to the Talary Hunar Hall owing to bad weather, as announced by inSlemani. Artists like Sana Barzanje, Hani Mojtahedy, and Hazhar Zahawy are performing at the event.
The grandeur of the largest Kurdistan flag in all of Kurdistan, hanging proudly on Goizha Mountain, is also part of the March 20 celebrations, as is a fire torch ceremony.
More tourists are coming to SulaymaniyahLast year, over 100,000 visitors came to Sulaymaniyah to celebrate Newroz in just ten days.
According to Aram Shwani, the city's tourism spokesperson, who spoke to PUKMEDIA, 100,000 tourists visited Sulaymaniyah between March 13 and March 23 of last year.
"We anticipate more tourists visiting Sulaymaniyah this year, and we've finished making arrangements to welcome them," he said.
In 2022, 2.5 million tourists visited Sulaymaniyah, out of a total of 6 million who visited the Kurdistan Region.
