President Bafel Jalal Talabani
In a statement on the anniversary of the chemical attack on Halabja, Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, said that the government has been irresponsible, but this negligence towards the people of Halabja must not continue.
The full message from President Bafel is as follows:
It is time to move beyond catchphrases and into deeds in serving Halabja and its people, and we must provide these services in appreciation for the valued citizens' sacrifice and sovereignty.
We know that there are shortcomings and that the city's needs and suffering have been neglected by the government for many years. However, this negligence towards the people of Halabja must not continue, and serious and responsible actions must be taken to serve the city.
The Iraqi Council of Ministers' designation of Halabja as a province was a crucial and required step for the Iraqi government to fulfill its legal and constitutional commitments toward the city of martyrs and compensate the city's beloved people.
May the spirits of the victims of the chemical attack in Halabja and all Kurdish martyrs rest in peace.
Bafel Jalal Talabani
President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
