Political Bureau: The PUK owns and protects the uprising's objectives

In honor of the anniversary of the Kurdish uprising, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) released a statement.

The declaration stated:

The uprising of our people against the Ba'ath regime's tyranny occurred 32 years ago.

Hundreds of martyrs' blood and the sacrifices of tens of thousands of our nation's sons helped liberate many Kurdish cities and villages. The uprising's entry into Sulaymaniyah's celebration stations, the collapse of the oppressive castle in historic Erbil, the expulsion of the Baath army from Duhok, and the culmination of the uprisings in Kirkuk on Newroz of freedom were all the results of the efforts of our nation's son.

For 32 years, the PUK has been honored to lead the uprising and defend its revered message and objectives. It fights tenaciously for the advancement of freedom, democracy, and sound government with the backing of patriotic forces and parties in all domains.

Now, 32 years later, an uprising generation of Kurds is growing up in the shadow of a liberated Kurdistan. With a message of resistance against oppression and dictatorship, they are looking forward to a brighter future and a more worthy perspective on life.

Every year, a new generation of politicians and public figures arises with a fresh perspective on Kurdistan and a desire to improve the country's governance.

To achieve a proud and just peace in the spirit of the uprising, the PUK appeals to all political forces. It also appeals to Kurdish youth to take ownership of the uprising's message and unite in a democratic, civil, and electoral struggle against the urge for discrimination and the tendency to turn away from freedom and democracy.

It is what Kurds in the twenty-first century legitimately want to show their dedication to and respect for the long struggle of our people and the heroic martyrs of its long line of uprisings and revolutions.

Congratulations to today's Kurdish girls and boys, whose democratic and civil struggle for a decent and hopeful life is the most beautiful gift of spring.
