Iraqi First Lady meets a number of Iraqi artists at Salam Palace, Baghdad

On Thursday, Iraqi First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed welcomed a group of Iraqi artists to Salam Palace in Baghdad.

Mrs. Shanaz was presented with a brief overview of the artists' creative works and their participation in regional, Arab, and international exhibitions. While praising the creativity of Iraqi artists, whose work is equivalent to the most brilliant and well-known works produced internationally, she also emphasized the importance of decorating the walls of presidential palaces and government facilities with works by artists of various disciplines.

"Artists have the power to transform blank walls into a theater of the past and the present, and they can enhance the beauty of urban environments." "It can change unfavorable phenomena into positive ones instead of random sculptures and expressionless paintings that have no purpose in enhancing society's taste," she said.

The first lady of Iraq praised the uniqueness and creativity of the artwork after viewing a sample of the artists' work, adding that, if shown on the nation's walls, such masterpieces would mark a turning point in the culture of succeeding generations.

The artists highlighted the challenges and barriers they encounter, including the lack of a market for their work and the difficulties in obtaining visas to visit regional and international exhibitions.

Ms. Shanaz applauded every important suggestion that demonstrated the Iraqi artists' enthusiasm to portray a gleaming image of their nation. She listened intently to the extensive and varied discussions that made up the meeting's highlights. In addition, she received invitations from the artists to the openings of both their individual and group exhibitions, which she accepted with pleasure.
