The Iraqi President praised the tremendous sacrifices made by the town in battling terrorists while stressing the necessity of strengthening the brotherhood and cohesion among all of the residents of Shingal (Sinjar) District, which is located in the Nineveh Governorate, as well as the need for concerted national efforts to enhance stability and civil and societal peace.

On Sunday, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, President of Iraq, welcomed a delegation to Baghdad's Salam Palace that included representatives of the Yazidi community from Shingal.

The Iraqi President emphasized during the meeting the necessity of working hard to raise the town's and its residents' standard of living, highlighting the hardships experienced by the displaced, particularly those from Shingal, and the significance of moving the resolution of their case and their return to their homes as quickly as possible.

In this regard, President Rashid emphasized the need to reconstruct the town, provide inhabitants with essential services, compensate those harmed, and offer the necessary support in order to improve the security and stability of its regions.

Following the crimes done by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists against the town's constituent parts, the delegation's members assessed their own social and economic circumstances, highlighting how their togetherness and national will helped them defeat terrorism.

The delegation's members urged that the town receive funding to hasten rehabilitation and allow displaced people to return to their homes, as well as the reinstatement of its institutions and administrative divisions.

The visit follows the approval of a decree by the Iraqi Council of Ministers on December 27, 2022, which advances a comprehensive solution for Yazidis in terms of land ownership. The decree gives residents of the 11 residential collective townships ownership rights to residential lands and homes.

Daud Jundi, a member of the PUK's Leadership Council, stated: "The PUK President requested the Iraqi Prime Minister to implement this decision." "This decision is the result of President Bafel's efforts," he continued. "President Bafel had urged for its implementation prior to the formation of the new Iraqi Government."

Sheikh Elias Baba Sheikh, a Yazidi figure and former representative of President Mam Jalal in the PUK's Duhok Organization Center, told PUKMEDIA.

"The PUK played an influential role in resolving the issue and restoring the rights of the Yazidis, and President Bafel's efforts and role, as well as his relationships with Iraqi political figures and parties, led to the issuance of this decision."

He added further: "The Shingal file is a complex file involving many parties, but the Kurdistan Regional Government does not want to resolve issues in these areas... the Shingal issue requires additional efforts to reach a final solution."
