Amin Baba Sheikh, Spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), stressed the need to maintain the historical relations between the PUK and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
In a Zoom meeting with a delegation from CCP, Baba Sheikh stated that the Chinese and Kurdish peoples were comrades in the struggle for independence and liberation.
Baba Shekih emphasized the need to perpetuate the relations of historical depth between the PUK and CCP, saying, "The communist party affected the economic, cultural, and political fields, as we see the need to develop those relations between the CCP and PUK, which have common intellectual interests."
He declared that even though China and Kurdistan Region have huge geographical distances, both people constitute an important part of the world, like the rest of the nationalities.
"No matter the obstacles stand in the way of prosperity and common progress between our countries, we must adhere to consultation, partnership, and sharing, which aim to support political, economic, cultural, and security ties in the region," he added.
Baba Sheikh emphasized the importance of the Chinese "Belt and Road" initiative strategy in the Kurdistan Region.
"PUK considers the "Belt and Road" initiative to be of strategic and vital importance, and we will strive, at the Iraqi and Kurdish levels, to benefit and participate in the initiative," he added.
Baba Sheikh continued, "Since PUK is a part of the Kurdistan Regional Government, we will seek to implement and start agreements and memorandum of understanding between both countries, in the fields of economic, industrial, and technological and to ensure the achievement of the principle of international security, and try to convert conventional energy into alternative energy in the Region."
"CCP and PUK have common intellectual interests, such as socialism and democracy, which have become an urgent necessity to organize people's lives and support those lofty principles of humanity," he added.
Baba Sheikh stressed, "We lack the support of CCP through its experiences in all fields, especially in party reforms and political, economic, and administrative transformations."
