The Iraqi Council of Representatives is scheduled to hold its regular session early next month to discuss a number of important draft laws, the most prominent of which is the Yazidi female survivors bill.
The MP for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Iraqi parliament, Dilan Ghafur, said during a special statement to PUKmedia that the session on Monday, March 1, 2021, will witness the vote on the draft law of Yazidi female survivors because it is a very important law.
She added that the law provides for the formation of a special directorate -linked to the Ministry of Social Affairs- for the affairs of Yazidi female survivors in Nineveh governorate and this directorate will be concerned with the affairs of female survivors from the crimes of the ISIS terrorist organization, including Christians, Turkmen, and Shabak people.
She explained that this directorate will provide all kinds of material and moral support to female survivors who survived ISIS terrorists' crimes, rehabilitate them, compensate them, and return them to society.
According to MP Dilan, along with counting all female survivors who survived ISIS crimes, that directorate will provide adequate salaries to the survivors, in addition to creating a legal formula for children born from ISIS father and providing study opportunities for female survivors and their children. As well as the formation of a first instance court in Shingal (Sinjar) district to deal with civil status problems of children born from ISIS fathers.
She indicated that the law also provides for the provision of plots of land for survivors, compensation in a material way, the right to appointments in government departments, and some exceptions to be made for them to complete their studies.
The law also stipulates the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with international bodies to define the crimes committed by the ISIS terrorist organization as genocide and introduce them at the international level, and to consider August 3 of every year as a national day for Yazidis.
MP Dilan pointed out that the law also stipulates that the Ministry of Culture will construct a memorial for the Yazidi martyrs and survivors of the crimes of the ISIS terrorist organization.
On August 3, 2014, ISIS terrorists occupied the northern Iraqi town of Shingal (Sinjar), the mainland of the Yazidis, committing mass massacres and the most heinous crimes against them. Men and boys were brutally slaughtered, while women and girls were enslaved and raped—all because they believe in something different.
According to the United Nations, ISIS had massacred 5,000 Yazidi men and kidnapped about 7000 Yazidi women and girls (who were forced into slavery) in northern Iraq.
