A wave of dust storm swept Iraqi governorates on Monday forcing the suspension of flights at the airports of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region due to a severe dust storm that hit the region.
The dust storm also swept Slemani as Slemani International Airport suspended all flights.
The Federal Meteorological Authority stated on Monday that the dust storm will gradually end this evening.
Dust storms already existed in the country during dry seasons, however, the frequency of dust storms in Iraq has greatly increased, with the country struggling to battle the effects of climate change, drought, and rapid desertification.
