The United States military announced in the early hours of Friday, 17 July 2026, that it had completed its latest wave of strikes against Iran, carried out on the orders of US President Donald Trump.

In a statement, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces used fighter aircraft, drones and warships to launch precision missile strikes on dozens of Iranian military targets, including observation posts, coastal air defence positions, military logistics infrastructure and naval assets.

CENTCOM said that, under the direction of the Commander-in-Chief, it would continue operations aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities and holding Tehran accountable for recent attacks on commercial shipping.

The command also stated that more than 50,000 US troops remain deployed across the Middle East and continue to maintain a high level of operational readiness and combat capability.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported explosions in several parts of the country late on Thursday night and into the early hours of Friday, following Washington’s announcement that US forces had carried out fresh strikes. Iranian state television, citing the governor of Bushehr Province, home to Iran’s only operational nuclear power plant, said two explosions had occurred in the city of Bushehr. A series of explosions was also reported in the coastal city of Bandar Abbas, where seven people were said to have been injured.
