The Global Civilisation Initiative Research Centre, in cooperation with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Erbil, organised a seminar and commemorative ceremony to mark the second anniversary of the International Day for Dialogue among Civilisations.

The event was held under the theme “Towards a Multipolar World and a Shared Future for Mankind” and marked the first time the occasion has been officially commemorated in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The International Day for Dialogue among Civilisations was established following the unanimous adoption of a resolution proposed by China during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2024. The resolution designated 10 June each year as the official day to promote dialogue among civilisations, encourage mutual respect, and strengthen global solidarity through greater appreciation of cultural diversity.

The inaugural International Day for Dialogue among Civilisations was observed on 10 June 2025.

Speakers at the Erbil event highlighted the importance of intercultural dialogue in addressing global challenges and fostering peaceful coexistence among nations and peoples. They also emphasised the role of mutual understanding and cooperation in building a more inclusive and interconnected world.

The ceremony brought together academics, researchers, diplomats and guests to discuss ways of advancing dialogue among civilisations and promoting shared values in an increasingly multipolar international landscape.
