Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization has announced the temporary closure of airspace over western Iran on Saturday, as diplomatic efforts continue between Tehran and Washington to reach a potential agreement, amid reports that the United States military is preparing for possible new strikes against Iran.

In a statement, the Iran Civil Aviation Organization said all civil flight permits had been suspended for airports located in the western sector of Tehran’s Flight Information Region.

Only eight airports nationwide remain operational, including Mehrabad International Airport and Imam Khomeini International Airport, as well as airports in Isfahan and Yazd.

Even at these operational airports, flights have been restricted to daylight hours between sunrise and sunset, with airlines required to obtain separate approval from the Civil Aviation Organization for each individual flight.

The measures come amid heightened regional tensions and renewed speculation over the possibility of further military escalation involving the United States and Iran.

Axios and CBS News reported on Friday that the United States administration was considering the possibility of new strikes against Iran, while President Donald Trump adjusted his weekend schedule to remain in Washington, fuelling speculation over a potential return to conflict.

CBS further reported that the U.S. military was making preparations for possible strikes over the weekend, although no final decision has yet been taken.

The reports coincided with intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation. Pakistan’s army chief, who has been involved in mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran, travelled to Tehran on Friday as part of ongoing attempts to secure a political resolution.
