Kurdistan VP meets German Military Adviser.

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Lieutenant Colonel Thorsten Piecha on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of further developing and strengthening relations between Germany and the Kurdistan Region on the basis of shared interests. They also discussed the ongoing threat posed by ISIS in the region and the need to continue German military support for the Peshmerga forces within the framework of the international coalition.

The talks further addressed the political and security situation in Iraq, recent developments across the Middle East and their implications for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as ongoing efforts to reform and unify the Peshmerga forces.
