Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has issued a message of condolence to the families of the victims of the traffic incident in Kirkuk and wished a speedy recovery to those injured, stating that party members in Kirkuk had been instructed to support the families of the victims and provide whatever assistance was required.

A horrific traffic accident occurred in Kirkuk on Sunday evening after a truck travelling on the Kirkuk–Sulaymaniyah road reportedly lost control due to brake failure, veering off course and crashing into 28 vehicles. According to unofficial reports, 12 people were killed and more than 20 others injured, some critically. Following the incident, the Kirkuk Governorate declared Monday a day of mourning and banned trucks from entering the city from 7:00 am until midnight.

In his message to Kirkuk victims, the PUK President said:

“This evening’s incident in Kirkuk has deeply saddened us all. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and to our loved ones in beloved Kirkuk.

We have instructed our comrades in Kirkuk to serve the families of the victims and provide them with whatever they need.

I extend my condolences to the bereaved and wish the injured a swift recovery.

We ask God to grant the souls of the deceased Paradise, and to grant us all patience and peace.”
