The newly appointed Governor of Kirkuk, Mohammed Samaan, commended the efforts of his predecessor, Rebwar Taha, stating that he would build on his work, which helped strengthening coexistence and stability across the province.

Speaking at a press conference after assuming office, Samaan said his approach would continue in the same path as the former governor’s, stressing the importance of delivering services to all communities in Kirkuk without discrimination. He noted that Rebwar Taha had worked diligently and fairly in serving the entire population.

He added that Rebwar Taha had played a key role in restoring security and stability in Kirkuk, while also strengthening coexistence among its diverse communities, affirming that the current administration would maintain this path.

Samaan further indicated that he would ensure equal treatment across all districts and would continue visiting sub-districts and areas to improve service delivery.

It is worth noting that during his tenure of one year and eight months, Rebwar Taha delivered wide-ranging services to the people of Kirkuk without discrimination, despite limited financial allocations amounting to no more than 10 per cent of those available to his predecessors. He also succeeded in enhancing security and foiling several terrorist attempts while serving as head of the local administration and the governorate’s security committee.
