The Sixth Scientific Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development has commenced at the University of Technology in Baghdad, with the participation of Halo Askari, Minister of Environment and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, alongside a distinguished group of academics and experts.
The conference aims to harness scientific research to address environmental challenges and support sustainable development in Iraq.
During his opening remarks at the conference, Dr Askari underscored the importance of institutional integration between the two ministries, stressing that Iraqi universities represent a key pillar in developing practical scientific solutions. He noted that the government is pursuing clear policies to reduce emissions and align with international environmental standards, thereby enhancing the global competitiveness of academic institutions.

At the conclusion of the conference, the Minister of Environment reaffirmed its commitment to supporting applied scientific research by fostering a conducive institutional environment and simplifying procedures for researchers. This approach is intended to encourage the development of innovative solutions that promote sustainability and respond to evolving global environmental challenges.
The event was attended by a number of senior officials, including Technical Advisor Dr Ammar Al-Ata, Director General of the Environmental Awareness and Media Department Amir Ali Al-Hassoun, Director General of the Central Region Environmental Protection and Improvement Department Dr Sinan Jaafar, and Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department Raghad Al-Obaidi.
