The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) issued a statement on the occasion of the Akitu festival, affirming that Christians are an integral and essential part of Kurdistan's diverse communities, sharing a common history with other ethnic and religious groups.

The statement reads as follows:

“On the occasion of the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year, Akitu, we extend our warmest congratulations to our Christian, Chaldean, Syriac, and Assyrian brothers and sisters, wishing them a joyous and happy celebration.

Christians are an integral and essential part of Kurdistan, sharing a common history with other ethnic and religious groups, and have practiced their rituals and celebrations freely and peacefully.

We hope that this year's Akitu festival will bring security and stability to the region, and that the turmoil plaguing it will soon end.”
