Iraq's Ministry of Trade announced that it has completed preparations for the upcoming wheat marketing season, expressing expectations of achieving self-sufficiency this year.

Haider Nouri al-Karaawi, Director of the General Company for Grain Trade, told the Iraq's state media (INA) that all necessary measures have been taken for the current season, with warehouses across the governorates fully prepared to receive this year’s harvest.

He added that projections indicate Iraq will achieve self-sufficiency in wheat production, based on estimates provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, which place expected output between 4 and 4.5 million tonnes.

Al-Karaawi explained that storage operations will be carried out across all governorates, where sufficient capacity is available to accommodate the quantities supplied by farmers.

Regarding payments to farmers, he noted that the mechanism and timing of disbursements fall under the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance, which is tasked with securing the necessary financial allocations and releasing payments to suppliers.
