An international conference on the future of the Kurdish liberation movement commenced today, Thursday, 26 March 2026, at the University of Turin in Italy. The two-day event has brought together researchers and political representatives.

Titled “The Kurdish Liberation Movement at a Crossroads: Historical Roots, Ideological Transformations, and Processes of Reconstitution,” the conference is jointly organised by the Italian Network for Kurdish Studies (RISC), the Amargi Foundation, the University of Kalar, and the University of Rojava. It will run until 27 March.

The opening day featured a series of academic panel discussions, bringing together scholars from Europe and the Middle East to examine political trajectories, identity, and governance.

The conference will conclude tomorrow, Friday, with a multidisciplinary panel discussion at the Amargi Foundation. The session will include prominent political figures, among them Ilham Ahmed from Rojava, Turkish MP Newroz Uysal Aslan, Iraqi MP Akram Saleh, and Italian MP Marco Grimaldi. It will be moderated by Kemal Chomani, editor-in-chief of the Amargi Foundation.
