Kirkuk Governor Receives Remains of Martyred Officer, Extends Condolences

Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha offering condolences to the family of the martyred intelligence officer.

Rebwar Taha, Governor of Kirkuk and Chairman of the High Security Committee, attended the reception ceremony for the martyred Iraqi military officer Sarmad Taib Barzanji and offered condolences to his family, stating that it was with deep sorrow that they received the news of the martyrdom of a son of Kirkuk, who was killed while carrying out his duty at the headquarters of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) in Baghdad.

“It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the martyrdom of an officer and son of Kirkuk, Sarmad Taib Barzanji, who was martyred while performing his duty at the National Intelligence Agency in Baghdad," Governor Taha said in a statement.

"This evening, we received his remains and extended our condolences to his family. We also offer our condolences to the head of the Intelligence Agency, as well as its officers and staff," he added.

The INIS said on Saturday that its headquarters in Baghdad was struck by a drone carried out by “outlawed elements,” killing at least one officer, who was later revealed by the service to be Sarmad Taib Noori, an intelligence officer.
