PUK Political Bureau Calls for Unity in Newroz Message Amid Regional Tensions

The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has issued a message marking the occasion of Newroz and the anniversary of the liberation of Kirkuk, Jerusalem of Kurdistan, from dictatorship, describing it as a symbol of struggle and renewal while urging unity in the face of ongoing regional challenges.

In its statement, the Political Bureau said:

“Congratulations to the people of Kurdistan on the occasion of Newroz, the national holiday, and the anniversary of the uprising victory.

Throughout our people’s history, Newroz has symbolised struggle and resistance against injustice and tyranny. It coincides with the anniversary of the 1991 uprising, which culminated in the liberation of Kirkuk — the ‘Jerusalem of Kurdistan’ — marking a significant milestone of victory.

Today, as we commemorate this occasion, our region faces considerable tensions and instability. Therefore, there is an urgent need to strengthen unity and solidarity to preserve the enduring goals of Newroz and our people’s uprising, and to realise our remaining national and patriotic aspirations within a democratic state and a balanced federal system.”
