Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has ordered security forces to pursue those responsible for terrorist attacks targeting the Majnoon oil field, the Al-Rasheed International Hotel, and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
In a statement, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief, Sabah al-Numan, said that while Iraqi security forces — including units of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) — continue to face “treacherous attacks” resulting in casualties, a series of “unjustified assaults” has also targeted key infrastructure and diplomatic missions.
“These attacks are aimed at undermining the security and stability that Iraq has achieved through the significant sacrifices of our heroic security personnel across all formations,” he said.
He added that the Majnoon oil field, Al-Rasheed International Hotel, and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad were subjected to “terrorist attacks”, describing them as criminal acts with serious consequences for the country and a threat to government efforts towards reconstruction and economic development.
According to the statement, PM Sudani has directed all security and intelligence agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible without delay. He stressed that the security of the state and the safety of its citizens are “red lines” that must not be crossed, and ordered that any officials found negligent in their duties be held accountable.
The statement concluded that the Iraqi people remain the primary victims of such attacks, which will be met with decisive measures to ensure lasting security and stability across the country.
Since the start of the Middle East conflict, militia groups in Iraq have claimed responsibility for daily drone and missile attacks on U.S. military bases and diplomatic facilities, including areas in the Kurdistan Region.
The Iraqi Prime Minister has previously warned about the escalating conflict in the region, stressing that the situation poses serious risks to everyone, including infrastructure projects, energy supplies, and supply chains.
