The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministries of Electricity and Natural Resources have announced that Dana Gas has halted natural gas exports from the Khor Mor Gas Field to power generation plants.
In a joint statement received by PUKMEDIA, the two ministries said that “due to the exceptional circumstances and clashes in the region, and in order to ensure the safety of workers at the Khor Mor field, Dana Gas has suspended natural gas supplies to electricity generation stations.”
The statement added that, as a result, electricity production capacity is expected to decrease by between 2,500 and 3,000 megawatts. The Ministry of Electricity is working to mitigate the impact of the shortfall on citizens by utilising alternative energy sources.
Operations at the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah of Iraqi Kurdistan were halted on Saturday as a precautionary measure, due to the Iran-U.S.-Israeli military escalation, a source at the company told Reuters.
Operated by the UAE-based Dana Gas, Khor Mor gas field is one of the most significant gas fields, which supplies fuel to power plants across the Kurdistan Region.
