An artificial intelligence summit in India has faced setbacks after Bill Gates withdrew from delivering a scheduled keynote address, amid reports of organisational difficulties and logistical disruptions.
The event, widely referred to as the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and held in New Delhi, was expected to bring together leading figures from the technology sector, policymakers and industry representatives to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.
However, Gates cancelled his participation at short notice, just hours before he was due to speak. Organisers did not immediately provide detailed reasons for the cancellation.
The summit has also been affected by reports of crowd management issues, long queues and transport disruptions around the venue, prompting criticism from attendees on social media.
In addition, other high-profile technology leaders were reported to have withdrawn from participation, further fuelling perceptions that the event had encountered significant organisational challenges.
While the term “chaos” has been used by some commentators, the extent of the disruption remains subject to varying accounts. Nevertheless, the cancellations and reported logistical problems have cast a shadow over what was intended to be a flagship technology gathering aimed at showcasing India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence.
Organisers have yet to issue a comprehensive statement addressing the concerns raised during the event.
