Representatives of the Democratic Kurdish Federation of Canada, along with Kurdish organisations from across the country, held an extensive meeting with the Canada Parliamentary Friends of Kurdistan Group at Parliament, focusing on the latest developments in Rojava.

The meeting was attended by the Chair of the Friends of Kurdistan Group, MP Tom Kmiec, MP Ahmed Hussen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development and Trade, as well as representatives and advisers to four Members of Parliament.

Participants stressed that the Kurdish people, surrounded by authoritarian and jihadist actors, continue to defend democracy, women’s rights, and the rights of all ethnic and religious communities—values that align closely with those of Canada and other democratic societies. The meeting also highlighted the critical role played by the Kurds in the fight against ISIS, while warning that Kurdish communities are now being left exposed to renewed attacks, particularly in Rojava.
