PUK Official and British CG Call for Dialogue and Mutual Understanding Over War and Violence

Darbaz Kosrat’s meeting with Andrew Bizley
Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, a member of the Political Bureau and Head of the Relations Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Andrew Bizley, the British Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, on Thursday. The meeting was held at the Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil.
The talks focused on the overall situation in the region, developments in Syria, and ongoing political processes, including efforts to form the new cabinets of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi federal government.
During the meeting, Rasul set out the PUK’s position on the situation in Syria, stressing the importance of protecting the rights of the Kurdish people and all other communities. He said that the Kurds are a peaceful people and emphasised that the rights of all communities must be safeguarded in accordance with human rights principles and international law.
Both sides agreed that the regional situation remains sensitive and highlighted the need to prioritise dialogue and mutual understanding over war and violence. They underlined that peaceful coexistence should be the foundation for addressing regional challenges.
Discussions also covered the formation of the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional Government cabinets, with emphasis placed on negotiations based on consensus, mutual understanding and inclusive programmes aimed at serving the interests of the people.
